TOP OF THE SWAPS Medics carry out record-breaking FIVE transplants in 36 hours… fulled by coffee and Jelly Babies Royal Papworth hospital staff worked non-stop to transplant two hearts, two pairs of lungs, and one single lung to patients

We are always on the lookout for enthusiastic, motivated people to join us at Papworth!

We offer fellowships in anaesthesia, ICU, or a combination of the two. Most fellows have some prior experience in adult cardiothoracics, however this is not mandatory.

We currently have fellows from Australia, Canada, Singapore, the Bahamas, Germany, the Netherlands, South Africa (and a couple from the UK too!).

Our case mix is fairly unique, and there are numerous opportunities for research.

We are a high volume centre with some of the best outcomes in the country.

Almost all cardiac cases (apart from the most straightforward CABGs) have intraoperative TOE by the anaesthetic team, and TTE/TOE is used routinely in ICU.

Every theatre has a top of the range Philips Epiq 7 3D echo machine, while our ICU has a dedicated Philips Affinity 70.

There is formal teaching every day,  regular MDTs, and the intensive care teams work closely with colleagues from surgery, transplant, and cardiology.

Cambridge is a beautiful city, and London is only 50 mins away with a direct train to Kings Cross every half hour.
